Last weekend, ROKiT Venturi Racing returned to Monaco for more than just a home visit, and a return to the Principality marked the next stop on the Season 7 calendar.
The 2021 Monaco E-Prix marked the first since 2019 and in the fourth edition of Formula E’s most prestigious race, a landmark weekend of competition was in store.
By navigating the challenges of Sant Devote, Casino Square, the Grand Hotel Hairpin and of course, the tunnel, we raced on the full layout of the Circuit de Monaco for the very first time.
At 3.33-kilometres long, this was a considerable step-up from previous events, with a 1.565-kilometre expansion of the previous shorter layout breeding spectacular overtaking.
In the first and only single-header event of the current campaign, Norman Nato fronted our qualifying efforts and was only 0.114-seconds shy of the Super Pole shootout.
Unfortunately, contact on the opening lap of the race damaged the Frenchman’s steering which effectively removed him from contention but from P18, Edoardo Mortara was on a charge.
On a circuit that is notoriously difficult to overtake on, the Swiss-Italian made light work of the field ahead and gained an astonishing five positions on lap 1 alone.
Over the course of the 45-minute + 1 lap event, Edo performed a mighty 10 overtakes in total and was in the hunt for points until the very end.
Through no fault of his own, contact in the penultimate corner of the final lap removed him from contention for the top 10 and completed what was a highly eventful weekend of racing.
Although our 100% points-scoring run on home turf came to a close, we’re set to bounce back in Puebla after surpassing a total of 750 laps on race weekends so far this season.
By advancing our lap tally by 116 last weekend, we have now completed a total of 739 laps over all four Monaco E-Prix to date which equates to 1,482.734-kilometres.
This accounts for over 5% of our all-time running since Formula E’s inaugural race in Beijing, with that total now standing at 25,555-kilometres.
With a total circumference of 40,075-kilometres, this is the equivalent of driving over halfway around the planet, using only clean and sustainable fully-electric power.
As the 40-day countdown for our return to Mexico continues, we’re already looking forward to returning to the track when the second half of Season 7 gets underway next month.
