ROKiT Venturi Racing’s Season 7 campaign resumed in The Big Apple as the FIA Formula E World Championship returned to New York City for the first time since 2019.
Making the fourth running of the iconic event, the 2021 edition of the double-header produced an exciting weekend of racing and a historic one for Monaco’s only racing team.
From the outset in practice, pace and promise were present but a difficult qualifying session for Race 1 left us facing an uphill battle on Saturday.
Both Norman Nato and Edoardo Mortara were in fighting spirits, however, and by performing a staggering combined 20 overtakes, moved forward by 13 positions in the 38-lap affair.
Although points were out of reach, the potential was there and Norman recorded his first fastest lap in Formula E – our third to date as a team and coincidentally our first since New York in 2017.
On Sunday, the Frenchman was able to carry this pace forward and by qualifying inside the top 10 for the fifth time this season, was in the perfect position to challenge in Race 2.
In a clinical and strategic drive, Norman recovered from a poor start to take P7 at the chequered flag to secure his second points finish of the current campaign.
Notching six points, Norman extended his Season 7 tally to 18 but most importantly, extended our total haul for the season so far to 89 points.
Having surpassed 88 points – our record total from Season 5 – Season 7 is now our most successful in the history of Formula E and with 192 points still up for grabs this year, history is in the making for us here in Monaco.
En route to this historic haul, we performed 32 overtakes as a team in total while we also surpassed 450 all-time points, now only 47 adrift from 500.
With 278 laps of the Brooklyn Street Circuit completed over the weekend, we covered a distance of 644.96-kilometres, bringing our New York total to 2,367.62-kilometres since 2017.
This is the equivalent of driving directly from our base in Monaco to the ExCeL arena in London – the site of the next race this season – and back again, all using electric power.
With the London E-Prix only nine days away, we’re already counting down to the penultimate weekend of racing this season.
