After a six-week break in racing action, ROKiT Venturi Racing resumed its Season 7 campaign with conviction as Formula E visited Puebla, Mexico, for the very first time.
Anticipation was high for the fourth double-header of the season at the Autodromo Miguel E. Abed as the circuit held its first international event in 12 years.
Showcasing promising pace throughout practice, qualifying proved to be one of our strong suits throughout the weekend as Edoardo Mortara progressed to Super Pole not only once but twice.
This placed us in a strong position for both E-Prix, and from P6 on the grid in Race 1, Edo stormed to P3 in a strategy-driven battle to take his second podium of the season.
With a second race following only one day later, however, the fight was far from over and a P3 starting spot placed Edo in a prime position to challenge for silverware once again.
A dominant drive in Race 2 saw Edo enter a class of his own, and by maintaining complete control, the Swiss-Italian pilot powered to an emotional victory.
This marked our second win in Formula E here at ROKiT Venturi Racing and by far our most commanding, leading 27 laps in the 32-lap affair en route to the top step of the podium.
Notching 25 points, the victory marked our first since the Season 5 Hong Kong E-Prix and brought about an end to an 834-day winless streak.
Yielding a combined haul of 40 points, the Puebla E-Prix marked our largest-ever points haul from one race weekend as Edo maintained his 100% scoring record in Mexico.
This impressive tally made history as for the first time in Formula E, a ROKiT Venturi Racing driver leads the championship, with Edo holding P1 in the standings, 10 points ahead of the rest of the field.
Collating Edo’s haul with Norman Nato’s efforts, we now hold a combined total of 83 points as an outfit this season, pushing us from P10 to P6 in the Teams’ Standings.
This is almost double our entire points tally from Season 6 and with six races still remaining, is only five points shy of our largest-ever haul from one campaign.
After surpassing his 40th race for the team, Edo continues to be our most successful driver – the racing ace accountable for two-thirds of our total podium performances.
While Edo was the star of the show, however, it was Norman who was the man on the move and in two recovery drives, the Frenchman performed an impressive 15 overtakes in total.
Threatening the top 10 in the second leg of the double-header, Norman’s points pursuit came to a cruel end through no fault of his own but by continuing to show his pace, our rising star showed just what he can be capable of.
Across our Puebla weekend, we completed a total of 212 laps – the equivalent of 621.16-kilometres of running in what was a nail-biting weekend of action.
This brings our running total in Mexico up to 2,480-kilometres while this season, we have driven 2,949.394-kilometres, all using fully electric power.
This is almost the equivalent of driving from the Autodromo Miguel E. Abed to the New York state border as we gear up for the next race of Season 7 and our return to The Big Apple.
