A Spectacular Season Opener
Season 7 was a landmark campaign for Formula E, and when racing got underway in Diriyah, Edo ensured that both himself and the team would shine in the season opener.
With the world watching on, Edo showcased his class and pace behind the wheel and after taking fourth in qualifying, was in a prime position to reap rewards.
In a fighting drive, he surged forward and fought to the front, performing a spectacular double overtake on Mitch Evans and Pascal Wehrlein en route to the podium.
By taking second at the end of 45 minutes + one lap of action, the Swiss-Italian started his season in style to set the tone and elevate expectations.
Esports Excellence
In the gap between the Diriyah E-Prix and Rounds Three and Four in Rome, the Formula E field took to the digital racing realm to return to the Esports arena.
With Erhan Jajovski and Lorenz Hoerzing behind the wheel, experience and youth came together to form a formidable lineup for Formula E: Accelerate.
When the Esports aces were joined by Edo and team-mate Norman Nato, the quartet hit their stride, bagging four wins and six podiums in eight races for championship glory.
After fending off BMW iAndretti Motorsport and Dragon Penske Autosport, we secured our own piece of history as Accelerate’s inaugural Teams’ Champions.
Edo’s Mexico Masterclass
Since Season 4, Edo has had a proven track record in Mexico so when Formula E visited Puebla for the first time in June, all eyes were on the Swiss-Italian come race day.
By progressing to SuperPole for Race One, he was in a prime position to challenge and from sixth on the grid, showcased a thrilling fight to the front.
By battling forward, Edo quickly moved into the podium places and after navigating a nail-biting scrap with both Audi drivers, clinched third at the flag.
This second helping of silverware in 2021 only added more confidence and in Race Two on Sunday, Edo continued to deliver his Mexico masterclass.
His approach was clinical and his racing calculating and by leading a staggering 27 laps, he was ultimately untouchable.
Taking the chequered flag, Edo secured our first victory of the season in a dominant fashion and launched his title challenge by rising to the top of the World Drivers’ Championship.
Delivering Under Pressure
After a hard-fought season of action, the title fight went down to the wire in Berlin and at Tempelhof, we capitalised upon our pace to remain firmly in the hunt.
Edo secured fourth on the grid for Race One, and by executing a perfect strategy, he once again found himself competing at the very front of the field.
When Lucas di Grassi overtook, Edo remained in hot pursuit of the Audi driver but narrowly missed out on victory by a mere 0.141 seconds.
With this result, he secured his fourth podium appearance of the season, his 20th top 10 finish for ROKiT Venturi Racing and also his 200th point in Formula E.
This only added to his hunger for the season finale but an accident at the start of race two at the Berlin track removed Edo from title contention.
This left Norman as our sole runner, but after securing a strong qualifying performance and losing two hard-fought podium finishes earlier in the season, the Frenchman was out for redemption.
When the race resumed following Edo’s retirement, Norman was on a roll and executed the perfect strategy to battle to the sharp end of the field.
Running a controlled race, Norman powered through to a dominant maiden victory to end the season on a high.
His conquest of Berlin secured a place in the history books while Edo became Formula E’s very first vice-World Champion following a season of success.
Our Engineer of the Year
Following the season-defining Berlin E-Prix, ROKiT Venturi Racing’s success continued off the track when Jérémy Conalçon received Formula E’s Modis Engineer of the Year Award.
In a celebration of engineering excellence and achievement, Jérémy deservedly received top honours at the end of his seventh season in Formula E.
With 18 victories, 34 podiums and four championship titles from his time in the series to date, Jérémy is one of our most prized engineers and is invaluable asset to us here in Monaco.
An Exciting New Lineup
When the Berlin E-Prix came to a close, we immediately started planning for Season 8 and in a revised driver lineup, we were proud to welcome Lucas di Grassi to the team.
As one of only two drivers to contest every Formula E race on record, Lucas holds a wealth of knowledge and is also one of the series’ most decorated drivers with 12 wins and 36 podiums.
With Lucas joining Edo, we approach Season 8 with our strongest driver pairing on record, and we’re counting down the days until the 2022 Diriyah E-Prix.
Three-Star Sustainability
Sustainability is a journey, not a destination, and in November, we were proud to celebrate receiving Three-Star Environmental Accreditation from motorsport’s governing body, the FIA.
By establishing a sustainability roadmap, we set out to make a difference by changing the way we work and how we go about racing, chasing a brighter and better future.
From reducing wastewater to creating sustainable team wear made using 100% recycled materials, our enhanced efforts achieved results.
Receiving the Best Practice award in the three-level programme, ROKiT Venturi Racing became only the eighth team in global motorsport to achieve the accolade, a feat normally reserved for much larger organisations. However our sustainability journey is far from over.
A New Structure
Preparations for Season 8 continued in November when we announced a change to our management structure with the appointment of Susie Wolff to the role of Chief Executive Officer.
Since joining the team in 2018, Susie has transformed ROKiT Venturi Racing both culturally and operationally and will continue to lead by example with this deserved promotion.
Jérôme D’Ambrosio will step up to the role of Team Principal where he will continue to make his mark in motorsport management.
A Promising Pre-Season Programme
When we returned to the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in December, we concluded our on-track preparations for Season 8 as testing came to a close.
The three-day test marked Lucas’ first time behind the wheel of a ROKiT Venturi Racing car while Edo carried on where he left off at the end of Season 7.
Turning a combined 404 laps and 1,363 kilometres, the pair collated invaluable quantities of data while Edo’s test-topping pace on Day Three indicated a promising sign for the future.
As the countdown clock continues to tick, the 2022 Diriyah E-Prix is edging ever-closer and we can’t wait to kickstart the coming campaign this January.
