In Their Words

Maximilian Günther, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing

“The Shanghai International Circuit has been around for 20 years, but like most drivers on the grid, this will be my first time racing there. The layout is flowing nicely and will surely provide some spectacular racing. I’m very excited to get back behind the wheel and try to execute a strong weekend. The last races were chaotic and unfortunate, but I’m feeling really good about our form. Looking back at our season so far, we’ve won one race, been on the podium twice, and have been inside the top 10 consistently, so I’m confident that we can fight at the front in China. After Shanghai, we have a short break in the season, so I’ll be giving it my all before the final few races.”

Jehan Daruvala, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing

“I’m really excited to race again this weekend, especially after my best result of the season in Berlin. Since joining the team, this season has been devoted to learning the nuances of Formula E, and step-by-step, I’m becoming more comfortable in the car, and I think that this is reflected in my results. Since my first top 10 of the season at Misano, I’ve been a consistent threat for points, and although the races haven’t always gone my way, I’m quite content with my progress. In Shanghai I want to maintain my form and hopefully, I can build some momentum and consistency as we approach the final few races of the year.”

Cyril Blais, Deputy Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing

“Formula E’s first-ever race was held on the streets of Beijing back in 2014, and after most recently racing in China in Season 5, we’re all looking forward to bringing the series back to its roots this weekend. In Berlin, Max and Jehan showed incredible pace and potential and we’re heading to Shanghai in a strong position. Throughout this season, we’ve showcased the performance of our package at almost every opportunity and knowing that we can be competitive wherever we race is an immense source of confidence and motivation. We’ve had an intense run of races recently, and Shanghai is the last race before a short gap in the calendar ahead of Portland and London. Very soon, we’ll be able to take some time to rest up before the final push but right now, we need to give it everything we can and focus on the task at hand.”

Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse

“Formula E returns to China after four seasons and even though we only joined the series last year, it is always nice to come back to old fans and race on a new track. The Shanghai International Circuit is a very special and famous location for motorsport and it will an opportunity for a new challenge: the circuit is an exciting mix of technical aspects and tight/fast corners; it will be interesting to see how the cars and drivers will perform and which strategy will be the best to succeed. After Berlin we are looking forward to another double-header, hoping to improve our last results and to be consistent with both our drivers throughout the weekend. The Shanghai E-Prix will also be a great opportunity to promote the link between the 100% electric series and the Maserati Folgore range, in a country where innovation and technological research are already part of modern culture.”
