Edo and Max reveal their Season 9 helmets

Motorsport rewards flair. No idea is too bold, no overtake is too brave, and no obstacle is too big to overcome. On the road to greatness, innovation and creativity go hand-in-hand.

Just as drivers gain acclaim, and teams receive recognition, fearless self-expression is also immortalised, and despite being an item of protection, racing helmets have the power to stand the test of time.

From an initial blank canvas, every helmet showcases a unique design, and at the start of each season, drivers stamp their personality and pin their colours for the world to see.

For Formula E’s ninth season, Maserati MSG Racing’s drivers, Edoardo Mortara and Maximilian Günther, will both compete with a revised aesthetic, adopting refreshed iterations of their timeless designs.

Both are instantly recognisable, yet vastly different, and for Edo, his 2023 helmet builds upon his long-time design and ongoing relationship with the bright and bold.

“I decided to go for a new look with my helmet designer, Daniel Designs, for Season 9,” explains the Swiss-Italian racer, on the eve of his sixth season in Formula E.

“Daniel Russello is an artist and as you can see, on the top, we still have the nice logos, ‘the smilers’, that I like a lot.

“I pretty much kept my initial design which I’ve had since karting, with the lines, but I decided to play with the colours quite a bit.

“It has quite a lot of yellow, orange, red, and purple. I like it, hopefully, it’ll be a good one for this season.”

Continuing to sport the same design since he stepped onto the single-seater scene, Max’s helmet for Season 9 sports a refreshed colour palette, alongside some new distinctive detailing.

“As you can see, my helmet is a new colour,” says Max. “Blue is my favourite colour, and I thought that now is the right time to make the change as the team colour is very blue.

“On the design, there are small changes compared to the past but really, the main concept is the same. I’ve got the ‘Max G’ logo on the side which is something that I’ve had for along time.

“I also have the star on the top, which has a special meaning for me as well. Obviously, I’ve got my new starting number, the number seven, in the back.

“I will use this number from now on, hopefully for a long time. Some other details on the helmet include the ‘Max G’ logo underneath my visor, some glitter detailing to make it look even more shiny.

“In general, I like the helmet to be very simple, clear, to be able to spot it from a distance, and that’s why I chose this nice colour. And that’s my brand-new Season 9 helmet.”
