Qualifying has been somewhat of a strong point for us here at ROKiT Venturi Racing and in Marrakesh, our form over one lap didn’t let us down.
From the second group of runners, Edo launched his Super Pole offensive, concluding the initial qualifying stages inside the top six to post one final bid for pole position.
Completing a 1:17.803s lap, our Swiss-Italian star cemented P5 on the grid – the perfect position to challenge from for the impending 45-minute + 1 lap affair ahead.
Experiencing braking issues over the weekend, Felipe qualified in P22 for the Marrakesh E-Prix but this didn’t damage his morale.
Promoted to P20 following lap time deletions for Robin Frijns and Neel Jani, Felipe showcased his class behind the wheel as soon as the green flags waved.
Securing the perfect getaway with lighting fast reactions, Felipe advanced to P18 by the end of the first lap, clearing series veterans Oliver Turvey and Daniel Abt.
While his braking issues persisted, Felipe didn’t surrender without a fight!
Holding P5 at the start of the race, Edo found himself in direct competition with Porsche’s Andre Lotterer.
Only fractionally behind Lotterer, Edo’s pace advantage was clear, but when reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne joined the fight, the battle that unfolded was one of the best of the season.
Swapping positions left, right and center, Edo cleared Lotterer in Turn 3 with 14-minutes left on the clock, only to be re-passed minutes later.
In one final attempt, Edo settled the scrap with less than 2-minutes to go, overtaking once and for all to advance into P5.
As real racers, we relish this close competition and can’t wait for it to continue in the next race of Season 6!
Locked in an intense battle with Lotterer and Vergne for most of the race, this on-track fight impacted Edo’s energy management and consumption.
As the pack started the final lap, Edo found Jaguar’s Mitch Evans directly behind and with the Kiwi holding a marginal energy advantage, knew it would be a battle that would go to the wire.
Holding off Evans, Edo secured P5 at the wave of the chequered flag, bagging 10 hard-fought points for ROKiT Venturi Racing to advance to P7 in the Drivers’ Championship.
While the competition for points ended on Saturday afternoon, we were back at the Moulay El Hassan Circuit on Sunday, partaking in Formula E’s only in-season test of the 2019/20 campaign.
With Norman Nato and Arthur Leclerc occupying the seats of Felipe and Edo, we completed running that will be vital for the second half of Season 6.
Turning more laps than any other team, we collected data that will aid our advancement of performance.
We’re excited to hit the track again when the current competition continues!
