With Santiago marking Edo’s 25th E-Prix with ROKiT Venturi Racing [and in Formula E altogether], there’s no doubting our man’s credentials in fully electric motorsport.
The Swiss-Italian maestro made all of that experience count during qualifying in the Chilean capital, with everything to play for as one of the early runners in Group 2.
Despite losing handfuls of time through Turns 1 and 2 – stamping on the brakes to avoid the spinning Robin Frijns ahead – Edo still managed to shoot to the top of the timesheets with an all-action performance through the remainder of the lap.
Holding the fastest time of any driver from the first two qualifying sessions by 0.013s, Edo couldn’t quite believe it when he crossed the line:
“Are you kidding?” he exclaimed on the team radio. “No... it’s not possible. Really?!”
Improving on a race-by-race basis in his second season with ROKiT Venturi Racing, Felipe’s one-lap pace shone through on Saturday in Santiago.
With a speedy run in Group 4, the Brazilian landed a place inside the top six – setting up the fourth Super Pole appearance of his career.
Setting an identical lap time to Pascal Wehrlein, Felipe secured P4 on the grid – his and the team’s best qualifying result so far this season!
After jumping Felipe at the start of the race, Edo found himself in direct competition with NIO 333’s Oliver Turvey in the battle for P4.
Driving around the outside of Turn 3, Edo strategically activated his first use of Attack Mode and with it, soon made light work of the Briton ahead.
Pulling alongside on the pit straight, Edo launched an offensive up the inside into Turn 1, gaining yet another place to push on towards the podium battle ahead.
Despite leaving South America with only two points on a weekend that could have yielded so much more, we didn’t give up without a fight in Chile.
After Edo was forced to retire with heavy damage following contact with Antonio Felix da Costa, Felipe lead the Venturi charge alone – despite carrying battle scars of his own.
Having fought hard to remain in the hunt throughout the race, Felipe was nudged into a spin by Daniel Abt in the final few minutes of the E-Prix, sending him tumbling down the order.
But the Brazilian is never one to be kept down – pushing hard to the flag to salvage a handful of points from what was an eventful race to say the least!
With Chilean blood in his family, it’s starting to become a tradition for Edo to run a specially designed helmet when racing in Santiago – and Season 6 was no exception.
Sporting a striking white design, brushed up with chrome and ice blue detailing, this eye-catcher didn’t fail to turn heads during the third race of the season!
