Before the action got underway in New York, we paused during our Thursday preparations to celebrate the birthday of one of our favourite team members – Norman Nato, who turned 29.
With the race weekend marking his first visit to New York, Norman celebrated his birthday in style in The Big Apple and was surprised in more than one way amidst the celebrations.
What better way is there to celebrate your birthday? Happy birthday Nono!
A difficult qualifying session set up an uphill battle for the team in Race 1, but in the face of the 45-minute + 1 lap challenge, we didn’t back down.
From P19 and P23 on the grid, both Norman and Edo were in fighting spirits and performed an immense 20 overtakes during the 38-lap affair.
Moving forward by a combined 13 positions from lights to flag, we finished in P14 and P15, showing our underlying pace and potential on the eve of Race 2.
After showing his promise in Race 1, Norman was on a charge when the second leg of the double-header got underway on Sunday.
Starting in P10, a difficult start demoted Norman to P13 but by remaining focussed, the only way was up for the French rookie as he hunted for his second points finish of the season.
By overtaking Rene Rast, Alex Lynn and Sebastien Buemi, Norman quickly recovered but his fightback was still far from over with a pace advantage on the field ahead.
In a final push to the line, the 29-year-old overtook both Mitch Evans and Sergio Sette Camara to move into P8 while a penalty for Lucas di Grassi pushed Norman up to P7, putting six points on the board.
By advancing his tally by six points, Norman, in turn, extended our total haul as a team and by surpassing the 88-point margin, Season 7 is already a historic one for us here at ROKiT Venturi Racing.
With 89 points on the board, Season 7 is now our most successful in the history of Formula E, beating our previous best performance from the 2018/19 campaign.
With four races remaining and 192 points still on offer, our championship assault is far from over and history is still in the making for Monaco’s only racing team.
Amidst the on-track action, we were thrilled to return to New York City for the first time since 2019 as we showcased cutting-edge EV technology on the streets of Brooklyn.
With unfinished business left on the table, we’re already eyeing the next stop on the Season 7 calendar as we get the action underway in London in only 10 days time.
