Having shown promising pace throughout practice on Saturday and Sunday, Edoardo Mortara was in fine form and carried an air of quiet confidence throughout the Puebla weekend.
Approaching qualifying with unshakeable determination, the Swiss-Italian was on a continual charge and in both classification sessions, found the sweet spot behind the wheel.
From Group 2 on both days, Edo showcased his natural ability by delivering a pair of one-lap masterclasses, using every available inch of the Autodromo Miguel E. Abed.
Securing P6 on the grid for Race 1 by advancing to the Super Pole shootout, Edo bettered this result one day later by snatching an impressive P3 starting spot for Race 2.
With raw pace at 250kW, Edo was a true qualifying threat in Puebla and we can’t wait to see the Swiss-Italian back in action next month in New York City.
With his eyes on the prize, Edo’s P6 starting spot in Race 1 proved to be the perfect position to fight from and a lightning-fast launch saw the Swiss-Italian move into the top five as soon as the starting lights flashed out.
Using Attack Mode to his advantage, Edo carefully fought forward to P4 before setting his sights on the podium positions, hot on the heels of both BMW i Andretti Motorsport drivers.
Continuing his charge through the field, the Swiss-Italian racer overtook Jake Dennis and Maximilian Guenther to move into P2, with only Pascal Wehrlein ahead.
Facing pressure from behind in the face of careful energy management, Lucas di Grassi and Rene Rast overtook Edo with only one minute remaining before a technical infraction for Wehrlein resulted in the Porsche driver’s disqualification.
With Wehrlein out of contention, Edo took P3 at the wave of the chequered flag to notch his second podium of the season but only his first of the weekend...
Starting from P3 for the second leg of the double-header, Edo carried over his Saturday heroics into Sunday and by overtaking Wehrlein for P2 off the line, continued his offensive.
An early Attack Mode activation for Oliver Rowland presented Edo with the lead and with a masterful strategy, the 34-year-old would become unbeatable.
Establishing a gap over the rest of the field having deployed his first use of the power boost device earlier, Edo successfully performed an overcut strategy and activated his second Attack Mode without losing track position.
Holding off a hard-charging Wehrlein, Edo took the chequered flag in P1, leading an impressive 27 laps en route to our second victory in Formula E.
