The Circuit Ricardo Tormo is well acquainted with Formula E action, but in a landmark moment for the championship, the Valencian venue found itself in a different capacity last weekend.
Falling at the centre of motorsport history, this familiar facility was reimagined as Formula E swapped its traditional testing tendencies by racing in Spain for the very first time.
Hosting the inaugural Valencia E-Prix and Formula E’s first race on a permanent track, the Circuit Ricardo Tormo was the backdrop to what proved to be an intriguing weekend of racing action...
After challenging for his first Formula E pole position in Rome, Norman Nato once more showcased his qualifying expertise in Valencia, proving himself as a one-lap specialist.
From Group 4 in the initial qualifying stages, the Frenchman secured a place in Super Pole for the second race of the weekend, impressing with raw one-lap pace once again.
On what was an ever-evolving, rapidly-drying circuit, Norman gave it his best shot in his final run to ultimately take P6 on the grid, sitting in the perfect position to fight forward in Race 2.
Over the course of the Valencia E-Prix weekend, Edoardo Mortara showed just why he is ROKiT Venturi Racing’s most decorated driver to date.
Following a pair of difficult qualifying sessions in which he took P17 and P15 on the grid, the Swiss-Italian continually set his sights on the race, showcasing his raw speed behind the wheel.
Although Race 1 came to a cruel early conclusion, Edo gained an impressive nine positions to run as high as P8 in the order on Saturday while on Sunday, his offensive didn’t stop.
In the second leg of the double-header, Edo gained three positions on lap 1 alone, and with expert energy management, continued to claw his way through the field.
Taking P9 at the flag, Edo secured two points by gaining an impressive six positions in what was a masterful comeback performance.
Consistency counts in Formula E, and following a challenging opening round in Valencia, ROKiT Venturi Racing bounced back to its true form in Race 2.
Just as Edo fought forward to take P9 at the flag, Norman too was on a charge and from P6, made swift inroads from the outset by advancing to P4 within the first lap.
By overtaking Oliver Turvey, the 27-year-old soon moved into the podium positions, next progressing to P2 after overtaking Alex Lynn.
Chasing down leader and eventual race winner Jake Dennis, Norman took P2 at the chequered flag, but as a result of a five-second time penalty, took P5 in the final classification.
Netting 10 points, Norman fronted a double top 10 finish for ROKiT Venturi Racing – the marque’s first of hopefully many in Season 7.
Amidst the highs and lows of the Valencia E-Prix weekend, ROKiT Venturi Racing remained true to its cause as it continued to accelerate towards a brighter future.
