Five Key Moments from the 2022 Mexico City E-Prix

An elit™ Partnership

Before we electrified the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on Saturday, we were delighted to welcome a new addition to the ROKiT Venturi Racing family ahead of shakedown.

In a new collaboration, the Stoli Group’s elit™ Vodka became a Principal Partner of Monaco’s only racing team, with our official announcement opening an exciting long-term chapter.

Elit™ Vodka is one of the highest-rated white spirits in the world and alongside receiving 10 platinum awards, has been named as the best vodka of the year on 10 occasions by the Beverage Tasting Institute.

Together with ROKiT Venturi Racing, it is elit™ Vodka’s mission to make a difference by accelerating its sustainability agenda, addressing responsible alcohol consumption and continuing to champion the LGBTQ+ movement, diversity and inclusion on the world stage.

As we seek to pursue perfection in performance and chase meaningful change, we’re thrilled to be at the start of this new era as we seek to create a lasting impact together internationally.

Edo’s Qualifying Fight

After showing serious qualifying pace throughout the Diriyah E-Prix weekend, Edoardo Mortara carried his one-lap momentum forward when we arrived in Mexico City.

As the leader of the World Drivers’ Championship, Edo contested the first part of Formula E’s new classification format in Group A and showcased his performance from the outset.

By setting the second-fastest lap in the opening stage, the Swiss-Italian progressed to the duels for a second weekend in succession and first faced Robin Frijns in the quarter-finals.

Beating the Envision Racing driver, Edo next faced André Lotterer in the semis and by then defeating the German, took up his place in the shootout for pole position.

Facing Pascal Wehrlein in the second Porsche, Edo’s efforts were bold and he gave it his all in an intrepid run around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Breaking traction in the final corner, Edo tipped into a sidewards spin in his final dash to the line, but despite getting pipped to the top spot, qualified in second place – a prime position to challenge from in the race.

An Eruption of Applause

Despite starting the 2022 Mexico City E-Prix from the dirtier right-hand side of the grid, Edo made the most of his front-row seat when the race got underway.

With a strong start, he quickly threatened Wehrlein but when the polesitter defended the inside line on the approach to Turn One, Edo settled into a rhythm.

Maintaining second place, he carefully managed the gap and after evaluating opportunities to overtake, activated his first use of Attack Mode with 38 minutes + one lap remaining.

Deploying the benefit of 250kW, Edo was on a charge and with an eruption of applause from the grandstands, took the lead with a diving move up the inside of the first corner.

By establishing his own advantage, Edo remained at the head of the field for a total of 19 laps and continued to show the pace of our Season 8 package.

Lucas’ Overtaking Masterclass

A small mistake in group qualifying relegated Lucas to 14th on the grid but when the race got underway, the Brazilian reminded everyone just why he is one of Formula E’s finest.

With a strong start, he overtook Mitch Evans, Alexander Sims and Oliver Askew on the first lap alone and sitting in 11th, was in a prime position to threaten for points.

After duelling with both Mercedes-EQ drivers, Nissan e.dams’ Maximilian Günther and Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy, he ascended to seventh before sustaining damage following contact with Nyck deVries.

Struggling for pace as a result, Lucas slipped back through the field but nevertheless, continued to fight and after falling to 13th, battled forward to eighth in the final five laps.

Although a five-second time penalty post-race ultimately relegated Lucas to 12th, the Season 3 champion showed tenacity in the face of a challenging afternoon of racing.

The Hunt Continues

After leading the early stages of the MexicoCity E-Prix, Edo came under increasing pressure from behind and in a nail-biting battle in the final laps, secured fifth at the chequered flag.

By notching 10 points, Edo successfully retained his lead at the top of the World Drivers’ Championship fight while with a total tally of 68 points so far this season, ROKiT Venturi Racing continues to lead the Teams’ Standings.

With three races completed this season, 13 remain and we’re counting down the days until the start of the European leg of Season 8, commencing with the Rome E-Prix this April.
