The Long and Winding Road
All roads lead to Rome and after a seven week break following the events of the Mexico City E-Prix, Formula E made a welcome return to the Eternal City.
For a second season in succession and a fourth time in total, the Italian capital acted as the backdrop to an excellent weekend of action.
With the competition closer than ever, the Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR produced a thrilling spectacle as Formula E’s eighth season resumed.
The Next Generation
‘When in Rome’ is how the saying goes and before track action got underway, ROKiT Venturi Racing unveiled its next chapter in the FIA Formula E World Championship.
In a multi-year partnership, the team announced it will join forces with Maserati from Season 9, powered by a fighting spirit at the thirst to be at the fore of groundbreaking innovation.
Together, this Monegasque-Italian collaboration will accelerate into Formula E’s Gen3 era – the championship’s fastest and most revolutionary generation to date.
#StandWithUkraine
At the Rome E-Prix, ROKiT Venturi Racing continued to compete with purpose and we were proud to stand with the people of Ukraine and offer support at a time of great difficulty.
Together with our Principal Partner, the Stoli® Group, we chose to promote peace at a time of war by incorporating the symbol of the dove bearing an olive branch on our livery.
This, alongside the clear and potent message ‘#StandWithUkraine’, formed a key part of our visual identity throughout the weekend with the intention to spark change on the world stage.
Race One Recovery
After qualifying 11th for the first part of the Rome E-Prix, Edo found himself facing an early uphill battle after making unfortunate and accidental contact with Oliver Rowland on lap one.
Despite losing ground to the top 10 and picking up extensive damage, however, the Swiss-Italian dug in deep and showcased his class on home turf.
In a daring drive, Edo fought from a low of 14th all the way up to the points and with a strategy that matched his strong recovery, he took advantage of a hard-fought race around him.
In the final 15 minutes, Edo battled past André Lotterer, Sam Bird, Pascal Wehrlein, Nyck de Vries, Antonio Felix da Costa and Jake Dennis to run as high as fifth with eyes on the podium.
Unfortunately, a five-second time penalty relegated Edo to seventh when the chequered flag waved but nevertheless, the Season 7 vice World Champion continued to show his promise in the current campaign.
Lucas Fights Forward
While Edo made an early exit in Race Two after contact with Da Costa, Lucas di Grassi was there to pick up the pieces and on Sunday, the Brazilian was on a charge.
Starting from 12th, he made immediate gains and by overtaking Sergio Sette Camara, held a prime place inside the top 10 with the intention of advancing further.
After a pair of Safety Cars in the mid-phase of the 45 minute + one lap affair, Lucas made his move, first passing Jake Dennis, then Da Costa, Pascal Wehrlein and Sam Bird to take sixth at the line.
A five-second time penalty unfortunately demoted Lucas to eighth but with four more points on the board, ROKiT Venturi Racing continued its points-scoring run of seven races – the longest active streak on the grid.
