In Detail

For the grand final of its eight-round competition, the Formula E Race at Home Challenge revisited the Flughafen Tempelhof Circuit – the home of the Berlin E-Prix – where everything was still to play for with double points on offer.

Given this prime opportunity to score, qualifying was pivotal and after a strong showing in the seventh race of the series, Felipe Massa and Edoardo Mortara completed their one-shot classification chance from the third and fourth groups.

While Felipe secured P15, Edo was P5 and from the eighth and third rows on the grid, the pair launched their final charge of the championship. While Edo maintained his position, Felipe jumped forward by seven places, moving into P8 by the end of lap 1.

On the second tour, Felipe dropped to P9 after getting overtaken by Antonio Felix da Costa but quickly reclaimed the position. Meanwhile, Edo was locked in the battle for P4 and with a diving move on Sebastien Buemi, secured the place on lap 11.

When the chequered flag waved, Edo held onto P4 while Felipe secured a hard-fought P8, notching a collective total of 32 points to deliverer ROKiT Venturi Racing with P5 in the Teams’ Championship, concluding seven weekends of competition of raising funds for UNICEF as part of the global coronavirus appeal.

In Words

Edoardo Mortara

“After a strong showing yesterday, I was able to carry my momentum forward into the final event of the Race at Home Challenge. My qualifying performance definitely helped me for the race and I enjoyed a very close fight with Sebastien Buemi after a frantic start. With double points on offer, finishing P4 today was satisfying and I’m very happy to finish the series in the top five of the Drivers’ Championship.”

Felipe Massa

“Qualifying didn’t go according to plan today but I made a great start to move into the top 10. Overtaking seven cars on the first lap was crazy! I enjoyed a close fight with Antonio [Felix da Costa] throughout the race and I’m very happy to take back-to-back points in the final two events. I would like to thank Formula E for organising this series and for supporting UNICEF in this difficult time.”
