Ahead of its grand final tomorrow, the Formula E Race at Home Challenge returned to the digital home of the New York City E-Prix – the Brooklyn Street Circuit – where the series continued to raise funds for UNICEF as the championship fight goes down to the wire.
In the one-shot qualifying session – with increased importance as the series’ elimination-based ‘Race Royale’ format continues – Felipe Massa and Edoardo Mortara launched their classification offensive from the second and third groups, securing P11 and P7 on the grid.
Lining up on the fourth and sixth rows, the start to the 15-lap affair was positive and while Felipe vaulted forward from P11 to P7, Edo continued to run inside the points-paying positions, backing-up his team-mate with P8.
As the battle ahead began to heat up, both Felipe and Edo overtook Mercedes EQ’s Nyck de Vries on the second tour, running in formation by holding P6 and P7 on the road.
Remaining unchallenged until the wave of the chequered flag, the pair scored a collective haul of 14 points to record ROKiT Venturi Racing’s first double points finish in the series ahead of its eighth and final round where double points will be on offer.
Edoardo Mortara
“As always, there were quite a few crashes and spins today but I was able to avoid them this time around. I spent the majority of the race running with Felipe – he was slightly faster in the beginning but I was slightly faster in the end. It was a bit of a lonely race but we scored a good haul of points with P6 and P7. I’m looking forward to the final event tomorrow.”
Felipe Massa
“I worked on the settings on my simulator in the run-up to this weekend and I’m very happy with the outcome! Today was my best race in terms of pace and I made a great start to eventually finish in P6. I had a fun fight with Edo at the end and I’m looking forward to having another good race tomorrow to end the series.”
