Formula E Unveils 18-race Season 9 calendar

In the run up to the 2022 Marrakech E-Prix, the FIA Formula E World Championship has unveiled its plans for what will be a landmark ninth season of competition.

The upcoming 2022/23 campaign signals the first of the series’ next generation and marks the competitive debut of the most technologically advanced electric racing car in the world, the Gen3.

ROKiT Venturi Racing will accelerate into this next chapter in partnership with Maserati, where the Italian brand will return to single-seater competition for the first time in over 60 years.

Pre-season testing at Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo from December 11-14 precedes the record-breaking 18-race season which will visit 10 countries spanning four continents.

The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City will host the Season 9 opener on January 14, where Maserati will make its return to World Championship competition.

The season next continues on January 27-28 with a pair of races on the now iconic Riyadh Street Circuit in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, before visiting Hyderabad, India, for the first time on February 11.

A pair of events on February 25 and March 11 are yet to be confirmed, while the inaugural São Paulo E-Prix will take place on March 25, as Formula E races in Brazil for the first time.

The Berlin E-Prix returns for a ninth successive season on April 22 and is succeeded by Formula E’s crown jewel event, the Monaco E-Prix, on May 6.

Seoul and Jakarta form a pair of double-header events on May 20-21 and June 3-4, while another race later in the month is yet to be announced.

The Rome E-Prix swaps its traditional April calendar position for a spot on July 15-16 and serves as the penultimate weekend of racing action.

The campaign concludes on July 29-30, with a double-header event in London, where the first World Champion of Formula E’s Gen3 era will be crowned.

“Season 9 is shaping up to be very promising - with new host cities, new manufacturers and the debut of the Gen3 car, it’s looking like we’re heading towards the best Formula E season yet. While we’re returning to some iconic circuits that we know and love such as Mexico City, Rome, London and Monaco, there are also some welcome new additions, including Hyderabad in India and São Paulo in Brazil. It will be incredible to show the pinnacle of electric racing in Gen3 to both new and established audiences alike as we expand Formula E’s global reach and continue to amplify our own beliefs by renewing our discussion around sustainability, both environmentally and socially.”
