Monaco-based Maserati MSG Racing is pleased to formally announce the appointment of Cyril Blais as the new Team Principal. Previously Deputy Team Principal, Cyril will be taking over from team co-Managing Partner, José Aznar, who held the Team Principal position during Season 10 of the FIA Formula E World Championship.
Cyril has been an integral part of the team since 2022 where he joined ahead of Season 8 as Race Engineer for Lucas di Grassi, before moving on to engineer multiple race-winner Maximillian Günther in Seasons 9 and 10. Prior to the start of Season 10, Cyril was promoted to Chief Engineer shortly before being elevated further to Deputy Team Principal mid-way through the season. At 42 years old, the Frenchman's remarkable track record and previous recognition as Formula E’s prestigious Engineer of the Year make him a natural choice to lead Maserati MSG Racing into Season 11 and beyond.Cyril’s primary focus will be on optimising team performance and meticulously planning and preparing for the upcoming pre-season test in Valencia, scheduled from 4-7 November. With a driver lineup featuring Season 8 Formula E World Champion, Stoffel Vandoorne, and one of the most promising drivers in the sport, Jake Hughes, the future looks incredibly promising for the Monegasque racing team.Maserati MSG Racing is eagerly anticipating the start of Season 11, and with Cyril at the helm, the team is confident in their ability to achieve strong results.
In Their Words
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing
“This new role represents the next stage of my career and I’m grateful for the belief in me that the team stakeholders have shown. I’m looking forward to focusing more on my leadership skills than pure engineering. One thing that I learned in my Deputy Team Principal role is that the running of a race team is never just down to one individual, and I wouldn’t feel as comfortable taking on this role if we didn’t have such a strong and experienced leadership group within the team. It’s easy to get along well and perform when you are achieving the results you want on track but we see the true nature of things when you have challenging times as a team. The strength of character and spirit that the team has demonstrated over the past two seasons has been really enlightening for me and I have a really good understanding of what needs to be done to maintain and build on this. Our main priority ahead of Valencia is ensuring that every member of the team has the optimum working environment and resources necessary for them to be able to perform at their best.”
José M Aznar, Co-Managing Partner, Maserati MSG Racing
"We are delighted to see Cyril elevated to the role of Team Principal. He truly deserves this and its clear testimony to his hard work and the leadership skills he has demonstrated throughout his time with the team. His extensive knowledge and experience within the sport, coupled with his passion and determination, will undoubtedly drive us towards continued success in the FIA Formula E World Championship. I’d also like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the entire team for their continued commitment and hard work, it was an honour to lead them in Season 10.”
