In Their Words
Jake Hughes, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing
“S11 will be my third season in Formula E and my first with my new team, Maserati MSG Racing,
and I can’t wait to get started in São Paulo! We were quick in pre-season testing, not that you can
tell too much from this, but it felt like a good start. I’m going into Brazil with confidence, I think the
team has performed well there in the past. It’s a speed-orientated track with big braking and a lot
of traction zones so we’ll need to be strong on that front. The past two races in São Paulo have
been action packed and with unpredictable weather conditions forecast, it’s going to be a really
exciting race for fans to watch and hopefully a great start to our season.”
Stoffel Vandoorne, Driver, Maserati MSG Racing
“I’m really looking forward to getting the first race weekend underway and also to open the season
in São Paulo, it’s a track I really enjoy racing and I’ve had some good qualifying sessions there –
pole position when we first raced there in 2023 and P2 on the starting grid earlier this year. I’m
really hoping to continue my track record there and start the season on the right foot but obviously
we have lots of new things to contend with too. It’s my first proper outing for Maserati MSG Racing
and it’s the first time we’ll all be putting the GEN3 Evo through it’s paces in very unpredictable
race conditions. Tyres will be a big talking point this weekend with a new compound this season
– we’ve learned a lot in pre-season testing but maximising on tyre degradation will be key to race
success. With the new car fans have a lot to look forward to - Attack Mode in four-wheel drive is
really going to mix things up strategically and there will be a lot more overtaking opportunities
which will make the races really exciting to watch.”
Cyril Blais, Team Principal, Maserati MSG Racing
“I think we’re in good shape, we had a lot of learnings from Jarama and testing generally, we’ve
been through all the data and found some interesting pointers to work on ahead of this weekend.
We had a small glimpse of where our competition is strong at pre-season testing but as we all
know, testing is very different to real race conditions.
“Now that our pre-season development phase is near completion, our full focus turns to the first
race of the season and with lots of rule changes and additions to the race format such as four-
wheel drive to contend with there are plenty of strategic opportunities for us as a team. The track
in São Paulo is one we know well from the past two seasons and normally, we perform quite well
there so hopefully it will suit us again this season but with a new package there are a lot of
unknowns to contend with.
“As always, our goal is to prepare as best we can and make as few mistakes as possible when we
hit the track. That’s about as much as we can control, the rest is down to the drivers and the
weather! And whilst both drivers are well prepared, the weather looks like it’s going to be dealing
us a bit of a curveball this weekend. It’s going to be a big challenge for everyone in São Paulo – but
there’s only so much we can prepare for and we’re feeling as ready as possible to get the season
underway.”
