After winning the opening two races of Formula E: Accelerate, ROKiT Venturi Racing showcased a strong comeback performance in Round 3 by extending its points-scoring tally on the digital streets of Berlin.
In a difficult one-shot qualifying session, championship leader Erhan Jajovski secured P10 on the grid while team-mate Lorenz Hoerzing took P16 after launching his efforts from Group 4.
By securing a strong getaway and carving through the opening sequence of corners, Erhan advanced to P7 on the opening lap although contact in Turn 1 pushed Lorenz down to P18.
Within a handful of laps, Erhan soon moved into P6 after overtaking Risto Kappet and activated his first use of Attack Mode with 11-minutes remaining to close in on the fight for P3.
A clear split in strategy between the podium challengers heightened tension but with a conservative approach to energy management, Erhan was in a perfect position when the white flag waved.
On the final lap, the 25-year-old successfully passed both Graham Carroll and Bono Huis to advance to P4, netting 12 points to maintain the lead in the Drivers’ Championship.
Despite picking up damage on the opening tour, Lorenz too showcased an in-race fight back and clawed his way up to P12 when the chequered flag waved after 25-minutes of racing.
With the completion of three races, Formula E: Accelerate currently sits at its half-way point and will return on March 11 for Round 4, held on the digital streets of Diriyah.
Erhan Jajovski:
“I’m disappointed with my qualifying performance but fortunately, I was able to recover well in the race. I made a good start and gained a couple of positions in the opening corners which placed me in a good position to challenge. There was a split in strategy throughout the grid but I opted for a conservative approach so I was ready to strike at the end. Today’s race was about damage limitation but I’m happy to take P4.”
Lorenz Hoerzing:
“In qualifying, I made a small mistake in the first sector and although I nailed the other two, I still started far down the field – the margins are so fine. It was quite difficult to overtake throughout the race but I think the uncertainty around the strategy really played into my advantage. There was a lot of speculation as to how long the race would be but I decided to save as much energy as possible at the beginning so I could use more at the end. This decision really paid off and in the last lap, I was able to make up six positions which was awesome. The race was fun and I’m really looking forward to Diriyah. Over the break, I’m going to regroup and focus and I’ll be targeting points when the racing resumes.”
