With three top 10 finishes, two duel appearances, 20 points on the board, and a near podium in Mexico City, it’s clear that Max has made the most of each opportunity that has come his way.
He’s one of only five drivers to hold a 100% points scoring record in 2024, meaning that statistically, Season 10 is Max’s best-ever start to a campaign in Formula E.
When it comes to meeting targets, the World Championship’s youngest race winner is always one step ahead, and when looking back on his year, Max is pleased. And rightly so.
“I’m really happy with how we’ve started the year,” says Max. “Our goal for this season is to be at the front and to score points consistently, and that’s what we’ve been able to achieve so far.
“I often talk about the base we built together as a team last year, and I’m very proud of our strong second half to Season 9 but carrying this momentum into 2024 has put us into even better shape.
“We may only be three races in, but we have a great dynamic within the team, especially after performing well at circuits which, historically, haven’t always suited our package.
“We went through a very difficult time in Mexico City and Diriyah last season, but by adapting our approach we’ve been able to put ourselves into a good position.
“We came very close to finishing on the podium in Mexico, and in the majority of sessions, I would say that we’ve always been competitive.
“Of course, not everything has gone perfectly to plan, and we underperformed in the second race in Diriyah, but I think we should still have confidence – we know that we can achieve more.
“In Formula E, it’s impossible for everything to go as you plan, but I’m proud that we’ve maximised every opportunity and executed strong races to score points at every possible moment.
“We’re in a good position with the pace of our package, and I’m already looking forward to coming back in good shape for the coming race weekends.”
Formula E will next race on March 16 in São Paulo, Brazil, which was the site of a key performance evolution for Maserati MSG Racing in Season 9.
After a tough start in 2023, São Paulo was the weekend everything started to come together, and as such, Max is excited by the prospect of returning to the venue with a whole year of development in hand.
“From Hyderabad last season, we started making some very significant changes, and at the point of going to Brazil, we’d taken a very big step forwards in pace,” explains Max.
“Our one lap pace in particular was strong, but in São Paulo, we had a unanimous feeling that our whole package was coming together so we could be stronger in future races.
“I really liked racing in São Paulo last year and I had a good feeling in the car from my first lap, so I’m looking forward to racing there again in a couple of weeks.
“Looking back on the past 12 months, we’ve been on a big journey as a team and from my perspective, knowing the route we’ve taken helps me to understanding my feeling in the car.
“Everything is improving step by step, and we’re continuing to get better, which is our main target. We want to make gains and keep our momentum so we can get to where we want to be.
“I’m very much looking forward to racing again,” adds the 26-year-old. “I can’t wait.”
