In Detail
ROKiT Venturi Racing’s Edoardo Mortara concluded Formula E pre-season testing at the top of the times as on-track preparations for Season 8 came to a conclusion.
The Monegasque marque returned to the Circuit Ricardo Tormo for a fifth year in succession to complete a promising and highly productive pre-season programme.
Edo was joined in the cockpit by his new team mate Lucas di Grassi who, on Day One, got his first taste of the team’s Season 8 challenger.
On the opening morning, the duo established an initial baseline before focussing on one-lap pace in the second session by participating in the first trial of Formula E’s new qualifying format.
Long-distance running was a prime focus for Day Two as the pair took part in a test race before continuing to collate data in the afternoon, with Edo placing second and Lucas seventh.
This provided invaluable insight for data collection as the team completed qualifying runs before moving on to race runs on the final day of testing.
With a 1:25.763 lap, Edo posted the fastest time of the three-day test. Lucas meanwhile, completed a 1.26.256 run to rank 14th overall in the combined classification.
Collectively, the pair turned 404 laps of the 3.376 kilometre-long venue to complete a combined running distance of 1,363.9 kilometres.
In Their Words
“It was a very positive and constructive week for us and, although we’re not reading too much into the results, it’s great to see that the performance is there and we will be heading into Diriyah with confidence. Testing provided a perfect opportunity for us to integrate some new key team members and also to run through the new qualifying and race simulation ahead of Diriyah ensuring that we feel as united and as prepared as possible. Overall testing went well for us and we’re looking forward to heading to Saudi at the end of January.”
"It’s always nice to top the timesheets for the week of testing and this is extremely positive. There is still a lot of work to do ahead of the first race to improve but overall our performance shows we are going in the right direction. The team performed well this week and working with Lucas for the first time we showed a good understanding and as a team ROKiT Venturi Racing are benefitting from his experience. I’m looking forward to Diriyah, it’s one of my favourite tracks of the calendar and it’s important to keep pushing until January.”
“The week went really well and I felt comfortable as soon as I got behind the wheel. Because the test is our only track time before Diriyah, it was very important to understand the methodology of the car, replicate qualifying and race simulations, and also to build my relationship with the team. Overall, the pace was promising and at this stage, it is clear that there is a lot of potential for the coming season. This was my best pre-season test in years and I’m confident that we can deliver a good season when we get started in January.”
