Following a brief break in competition, ROKiT Venturi Racing returned to the esports arena, and on the digital streets of Diriyah, the Monegasque marque powered to the podium, netting a third top-three result in Formula E: Accelerate.
For the fourth race of the competition, championship leader Erhan Jajovski qualified in P3 while team-mate Lorenz Hoerzing secured his best qualifying result to date by taking P12.
When the 25-minute race commenced, Erhan maintained position over the opening stages, however, Lorenz quickly advanced to the top 10 by overtaking Manuel Biancolilla and Kuba Brzezinski.
Erhan remained within range of the fight for P1 throughout the race, and with six minutes remaining, he overtook Kevin Siggy for P2 before setting his sights on leader Frederik Rasmussen.
Beating the Dane’s own personal best race lap in the closing stages, Erhan began to close the gap but with energy levels becoming critical, he was forced to abandon his charge, taking P2 when the chequered flag waved.
A daring final lap from Lorenz saw the Austrian overtake reigning F1 esports champion Jarno Opmeer before darting past Petar Brljak to complete a double-points performance in P8.
In the first part of the Accelerate Driver Challenge, Norman Nato also showcased a strong comeback performance and from P12 on the grid, the Frenchman took P3 to advance ROKiT Venturi Racing’s Teams’ Championship tally by a further 15 points.
With only two races remaining, the Grand Final of Formula E: Accelerate edges closer. The series will return on March 18 for the penultimate round of the competition, held on the fictional Electric Docks circuit.
“Given the position I started in, I’m happy with P2 – I think it’s a pretty good result. After overtaking Kevin [Siggy] I was close on energy and I only had 0.2% of usable energy left at the end of the race. It was really tight! I started lifting a lot earlier than usual so I could get to the end. I’m looking forward to the next race and I hope we can carry over our form from the first four races.”
“The race was awesome! I think I was a bit too cautious during my qualifying run and I made a small mistake in Sector 2, but all in all, I still secured my best starting position of the season. The race was the best one I’ve driven so far. In Diriyah, you lose more time by activating Attack Mode than you gain from the power advantage so the timing was very important. I timed them perfectly though, and this meant that when others used them, they fell behind me and couldn’t re-overtake. At the end of the race, I had a lot more energy than the drivers in front of me which meant I made up two more positions on the final lap to take P8. I’m incredibly happy with my performance and I’m very much looking forward to the coming races – my motivation is very high.”
