Excitement is ramping up for the continuation of Season 7 this weekend, and as Formula E makes a return to Europe, it also re-visits the streets of Rome for the first time since 2019.
As the third time we have visited the Italian capital, the 2021 Rome double-header is set to be a thrill but with several track changes, this weekend’s race marks a journey into the unknown.
The high-speed configuration of the Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR is two corners shorter than its predecessor, but with an extra 0.525-kilometers, it is the longest track on the 2020/21 calendar.
Coupled with Rome’s status as one of the most traffic-clogged cities in the world, Formula E’s mission to promote a sustainable future remains at the fore, and things are no different this weekend.
In the Italian capital, 65% of all trips are made by personalised transport, and by racing through the Via Cristoforo Colombo, this weekend’s race will have a lower impact on congestion.
With a long-term agreement to race in Rome, we’ll be racing in support of the city as Italy aims to put one million electric vehicles on the road by 2022 while banning private diesel vehicles in the capital from 2024.
The inaugural Rome E-Prix, meanwhile, was a landmark event for us here at ROKiT Venturi Racing, and with a fighting performance from Edoardo Mortara and Maro Engel, we took our 30th points finish in Formula E.
Since then, that tally has only increased, and by taking points in 50 races, we have scored in over 70% of all of Formula E’s events since the championship’s inception in 2014.
Over the course of the last two races in the Eternal City, we have turned a total of 228 laps – the equivalent of driving over 650-kilometers, all by using clean and sustainable electric power.
This is the same as lapping the Colosseum over 1,200 times, driving the height of St. Peter’s Basilica over 4,700 times, and driving from our Monaco base to Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Rome offices – located just outside of the EUR district where we will be racing this weekend.
