Susie Wolff Looks Ahead to 2020

After a transitional 2019, our Team Principal explains why 2020 could be the biggest year yet for Venturi…

The arrival of a new year brings new challenges and new opportunities – and here at ROKiT Venturi Racing, we can’t wait to get stuck in!

As the 2019/20 Formula E campaign progresses in Santiago and beyond, the team has fresh ambitions for the second season of Gen2 competition.

‍

After a Season 5 campaign which produced a win and a handful of podiums mixed with a number of disappointing weekends, for 2020 we’re targeting  greater consistency as we set our sights firmly on improving our position in the Teams’ Championship:

“I’m targeting consistency,” said Susie, looking onwards to 2020. “We had big highs in Season 5 but also lows and I want to have a more consistent Season 6. I want to end up further up the table in the Teams’ Championship”

The arrival of a new season typically brings a few changes within every team – but in Monaco, we’ve made significant steps by joining forces with Mercedes-Benz as our powertrain supplier and collaborating with ROKiT as our title partner. And there’s still more to come:

“There’s so much more still to do at Venturi,” continues Susie. “We’re delighted to partner with Mercedes, obviously, with their success in motorsport. We’re also very proud to have ROKiT on board as our title partner.

‍

“For me, it’s just about making progress and extracting the maximum performance from the team – making sure that we can have some great results, that we can deliver on all of the expectations we have set for ourselves and that we can have fun going racing.”

Beyond Season 6, Formula E continues to reach new heights, gaining World Championship status from the FIA for its 2020-21 campaign – a move that Susie acknowledged as a significant step for the series:

“I think it’s a big step in the right direction,” she continued. “Because it was groundbreaking in the way the platform goes racing, Formula E attracted a lot of early attention. Now, having World Championship status gives it another level of prestige. As a driver or as a team, it’s always good to fight for a World Championship.”

With a long year ahead and plenty of opportunities and challenges to come, Susie remains characteristically grounded in her ambitions for 2020. But make no mistake – no stone will be left unturned in working towards those goals for both the team and our Team Principal personally:

“This time next year, I’d like to be as happy as I am now and as healthy as I am now,” she concluded. “A couple of wins would be nice – and a top-six finish in the Teams’ Championship.”
