Key facts and figures from the opening weekend of Season 6 in Diriyah

The FIA Formula E Championship returned to Saudi Arabia last weekend to kick-start its highly anticipated sixth season.

With two races taking place in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, this marked the second time that a Formula E season has commenced with a double-header event – the Season 4 Hong Kong E-Prix weekend the only previous occurrence.

Race 2 marked Formula E’s 60th E-Prix – a landmark as momentous for ROKiT Venturi Racing as the sport itself, having been the first team to commit to the series back in 2013.

‍

We have some special memories from our 60 E-Prix to date – and these were certainly added to in Diriyah, with the announcement of an exciting new title partnership in ROKiT and flashes of strong pace from both drivers in both Quali and Race trim across the weekend.

Edo’s haul of 18 points courtesy of a P7 finish in Race 1 and P4 in Race 2 marked the team’s second-best start to a Formula E campaign, with only our performance in the Season 4 Hong Kong double-header yielding a higher return from the opening two races of a season.

‍

Edo’s P4 finish in Race 2 also means that our Swiss-Italian star has now recorded 99 points for ROKiT Venturi Racing, making him our most successful driver by surpassing Stéphane Sarrazin’s previous record points tally of 94.

‍

As an established racing driver, it was no surprise to see that Felipe was also making moves in Diriyah – the Brazilian veteran showcasing that he’s lost none of his lightning reaction times by gaining an impressive six places on the opening lap alone in both races.

The running that we completed in Diriyah was also extensive, with Edo and Felipe notching a combined 261 laps [651km] of the Riyadh Street Circuit over Friday and Saturday – the equivalent of driving from our HQ in Monaco to Stuttgart in Germany, home of our powertrain partner Mercedes-Benz.

‍

Combine this with our running since Season 1 and we have now covered a total of 21,225km since Formula E began. This is the same as driving over half-way around the world, with the circumference of planet Earth standing at 40,075km.

And this is just the beginning… we’re already fired up to build on those numbers in Santiago!
