After a five-month break as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, Formula E is back and as it heads to Europe for the first time this season, faces an unprecedented schedule ahead.
In Berlin, we will complete six races in nine days to conclude the current campaign and with 288 points up for grabs, everything is still to play for.
The finale’s tight schedule will present a true test of endurance and alongside this, stringent health and safety measures will underline this period of competition.
From protocols to perseverance, for ROKiT Venturi Racing Team Manager Delphine Biscaye, the six-part Berlin showdown showcases an interesting stretch for the series ahead.
“I think the event in Berlin is going to be difficult to manage, more for Formula E than the teams,” she said.
“The whole protocol is very complicated and very strict so everybody really needs to respect it. It will be very hard to manage this as an international paddock.
“Doing six races in Berlin, for us, is a bit disappointing because it isn’t the same as doing three double-headers in three different locations but it’s still great that we can at least finish the season.
“It’s going to be very interesting from a team perspective because all of us will be staying together for nearly two whole weeks,” she continued.
“Berlin will be very hard and very exhausting for the core team – six races in nine days will be a real test of endurance but we will get through it.
“We have two possible endings: We’ll either come out of this stronger together or we won’t be able to talk to each other for a whole month!
“Such a long stint will reveal a lot about the team as well so I’m quite excited to see how we will work together from a personal perspective, not just on the sporting side.”
With five races of the 2019/20 campaign completed to date, the impending showdown will see the equivalent of half a season completed in less than two weeks.
As such, our cars will rack up the mileage, but despite this, the package we have is ready for the test ahead after showing strong reliability thus far:
“The car has proven to be very reliable since the start of the season and we haven’t seen any major issues, especially on the important components such as the powertrain,” explains Delphine.
“Based on this, we should be able to finish the season quite well. Our preparations will help this too.
“All parts and components have been serviced and checked, meaning we will start the first race with a car that’s completely prepared already.
“We also have enough components to be able to do this in between the double-headers during the week, allowing us to always be one step ahead.”
With an extensive points haul on offer and two championship titles up for grabs, consistency over the showdown will be key and with this, regular high-end top 10 performances will be our goal for the finale:
“The team aim is always to win but given the start that we made, we know it’s very difficult to do this,” adds Delphine.
“We’ve seen some teams have a really good car this year but we’ll be doing our best to be as close as possible.
“Realistically, being close to the podium, finishing third and fourth would be great.”
