The Story So Far – Heartbreak in Hong Kong

Edo’s route to a first Formula E podium in Hong Kong was about as dramatic as it gets…

After concluding Seasons 1 and 2 with a podium in each, a tough 2016/17 campaign halted our hunt for silverware.

This was only momentary, however, as we hit the ground running in Season 4 at the campaign-opening Hong Kong E-Prix, with Maro Engel and new kid on the block Edoardo Mortara behind the wheel.

After showing positive pace in the first race of the double-header event with a P7 finish, Edo put the team in a perfect position to challenge for victory by qualifying on the front row for Race 2.

With a rolling, single-file start as opposed a typical standing getaway, Edo grabbed the lead at the first available opportunity as polesitter Felix Rosenqvist spun into Turn 1.

Edo streaked ahead and led for almost the entire race, before dramatically spinning with just over two laps to go – handing the lead to Daniel Abt.

A heartbroken Edo eventually took the chequered flag in P3 to record his maiden Formula E podium in only his second start – but the story didn’t end there.

A post-race administration error resulted in a disqualification for Abt, promoting Edo back up to P2 and equaling our best result to date at the time.

Although this marked our only trip onto the podium in the 2017/18 Championship battle, further success would follow in Season 5 – our strongest campaign to date…
