The Story So Far – Edo Tames the Deserts of Diriyah

After a challenging Season 6, our start to Formula E’s seventh campaign yielded immediate success as we returned to the top three in the deserts of Diriyah.

As the first race of Formula E’s era as an FIA-sanctioned World Championship, determination was high and as such, we hit the ground running as soon as the weekend got underway.

In a hotly contested qualifying session, Edoardo Mortara secured a competitive P4 and this set the stage for one of the series’ most exciting races to date.

By securing a clean start, Edo maintained position over the opening stages, however, quickly set his sights on the podium by rolling the strategy dice early on in the race.

With Attack Mode armed and activated, the Swiss-Italian briefly dropped to P5 but with a 35kW power advantage over Mitch Evans and Pascal Wehrlein ahead, the gap was closing.

In one daring move – one of Formula E’s most spectacular to date – Edo darted past the Jaguar and Porsche pairing and pushed forward into the podium positions.

Edo’s charge was still far from over, however, and our certified street circuit specialist was already eyeing his next target in Rene Rast.

Again by activating Attack Mode, Edo closed in and overtook the Audi driver to move into P2 before conserving his energy as the chequered flag beckoned.

Fending off a late threat from the triple DTM champion, a masterful drive powered Edo to his fourth podium in Formula E, netting 18 points at the first available opportunity in the season.
