After a lull in on-track action, we’re all craving competition, and as the start of Season 7 edges closer, we’ll be making a return to the digital realms of racing.
In Formula E: Accelerate – the championship’s latest esports series – we’ll continue to do battle against our fellow competitors, all from the comfort of home.
New to esports? Don’t worry. With the help of this simple guide, we’ve tried to answer some of the questions that you’ll inevitably have.
This is a question we’ve tried to answer before, but if you’re new to the virtual spheres of competition, esports has been on everyone’s lips for the past 12 months.
The world of esports takes player matchmaking in video games to a whole new competitive level and just as the spectacle grows, the prizes also increase.
In Formula E: Accelerate, we’ll be competing on rFactor 2 with cutting-edge gameplay mechanics that have never been seen before in sim-racing.
In short, it’s a series that’s not to be missed.
Accelerate builds upon the successes of last year’s Race at Home Challenge and will see 24 of the world’s most talented sim racing stars battle it out on track.
Over six events, drivers will face the ultimate high-stakes environment to compete for one of the most lucrative prizes in sim racing – a prize pot of €100,000 and the chance to drive a real-world Gen2 car.
Accelerate’s six races will last for 25-minutes each and will feature all 12 teams and a full grid of 24 drivers who will compete on perfect digital recreations of real-life Formula E circuits.
Drivers will also have to get to grips with the energy management and Attack Mode for the very first time, replicating the real-life, high-pressure challenges of electric motorsport.
Racing will commence on Thursday, 28 January and will conclude on Thursday, March 25 where double points will be awarded and the series champion will be crowned.
For Formula E: Accelerate, we’re delighted to have Lorenz Hoerzing and Erhan Jajovski fronting our efforts from the virtual cockpit.
Aged only 18, Lorenz is a rising star in sim racing and is no slouch behind the wheel. He is an F1 Bros League champion in both Formula 1 and Formula E and also contested last year’s Race at Home Challenge.
After representing Monaco’s only racing team on the Challenge Grid in the Race at Home series, Erhan is a familiar face to all of us here at ROKiT Venturi Racing.
The 25-year-old Macedonian came second in Formula E’s online qualifier for Accelerate, only 0.044s shy of the fastest time. He is also the winner of the 2020 GT Pro Series and the 2021 Sim Formula Europe champion.
Accelerate will be available to watch across Formula E’s Twitch, Facebook and YouTube channels from 19:00 GMT on Thursday, 28 January.
