Venturi Racing: The Story So Far

On the eve of Season 6, we look back at our Formula E journey so far…

The Story

After what might seem like an eternity to fans of the series, Formula E will be back for its sixth season later this year as the countdown to the season launch in Diriyah on November 22nd commences.


With the field expanding to 12 teams and 24 cars, we’re proud to be able to say that we’ve been on the grid since the very beginning at the 2014 Beijing E-Prix.


This means we’ve contested all 58 races in Formula E to date, creating many memories and some impressive stats along the way.


Since that first race in Beijing in 2014, it’s fair to say that we’ve completed a lot of running in Formula E. And when we say a lot… we mean a LOT! In excess of 19,000 kilometres to be precise!


Put into context, that’s the equivalent of driving from our Monaco HQ to the birthplaces of Edo, [Geneva, Switzerland], Susie [Oban, Scotland] and Felipe [São Paulo, Brazil] before heading off to Antarctica – the namesake of Venturi’s polar exploration project.


But amongst all that electric-fuelled mileage, it was last season that we really started to make our mark in Formula E, with a number of breakthrough moments.


In Hong Kong, Edo secured his own piece of history by winning the 50th E-Prix – an event that also marked the team’s first victory.


Alongside that special result in Hong Kong, we made the podium on another three occasions in Season 5 – including our home race in Monaco with Felipe – to bring our overall tally to six since Formula E’s inaugural race. 


Those podiums helped make the 2018/19 campaign our best yet in the series, finishing the season with 88 points. But, as we’ve mentioned, our Formula E adventure didn’t just start yesterday…

Formula E’s inaugural race in Beijing was one that will go down in history – not only as the first of the series but also as one of the most memorable, with Nick Heidfeld just a single corner away from sealing victory for Venturi, before a spectacular collision with Nico Prost saw the German end the race upside-down in the barriers.


While Beijing was a story of what could have been, it lit the flame for our desire to succeed – as showcased a few races later in Moscow, with our maiden podium finish.


The team carried that momentum into Season 2, with Stéphane Sarrazin maintaining a 100% points-scoring record over the campaign – one of only two drivers to achieve that feat in Formula E to date.


After a tough campaign in Season 3, the team returned to the podium and banked consistent points once again in Season 4, as we closed the first chapter of Formula E’s story to welcome a next generation Championship in Season 5 with the introduction of the Gen2 car.


With the 2019/20 campaign right around the corner, we can’t wait to see what the next challenge brings...

The Numbers

  • 1 – We secured our first win in Season 5 in Hong Kong – a race that also marked Formula E’s 50th E-Prix
  • 3 – Edo has scored more podium finishes for the team than any other driver, with three to his name so far
  • 6 – We’ve finished on the podium on six occasions across Formula E’s five seasons to date
  • 8 – Since Season 1, we’ve had eight drivers. The average across Formula E is 6.4
  • 11 – By winning in Hong Kong, we became the 11th Formula E team to win an E-Prix, alongside Aguri, Audi, BMW, Dragon, e.dams, Jaguar, Mahindra, NIO, Techeetah and Virgin
  • 58 – Venturi has competed in 58 E-Prix – one of seven teams to have contested every race alongside Andretti, Audi, Dragon, e.dams, Mahindra and Virgin
  • 81 – With 81 points from 22 races so far, Edo is Venturi’s second most successful driver by points scored after Stéphane Sarrazin [94]
